Speaker: Mick Needham

Topic: Early Railroading

Mick Needham has a unique presentation relating to local historical railroads through the eyes of a collector. Mick's collection of images includes rare artifacts from western railroads, how they were used by the railroads, and their relationship to northern California and Chico in particular.

His love of trains, steam locomotives in particular, was inspired at an early age to his mother's dismay by sneaking off to watch steam trains behind his grandmother's house on the NYC mainline in Indiana. This passion was reinforced after moving to southern CA, when living between the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe main lines. He worked his way through college at Long Beach State by spending summers as a rail yard employee at Kaiser Steel. Needham has done presentations on "railroadiana" collecting for numerous local historical organizations.

Mick Needham and his wife Becky have been married 44 yrs, and have raised 2 sons who work with him in Needham Stained Glass Studios. Mick has been in business as sole proprietor for 45 years, longer than any other business in the downtown!
